Cascade Claphouse (Droite) WI III/4

After a lengthy approach on ski and an involved walk across a jumble of boulders and undergrowth we made it the icefalls of Claphouse. Situated in a quiet and shaded valley above Ailefroide we hoped that, despite the mild conditions, they might have formed. Thank-god they were climbable, little else low down is currently, albeit with water cascading down in places. The shallow snowpack is making the approaches considerably more problematic than they should be.
